Men’s and Community Sheds Small Grants Program

Labor recognises that since 2009 the number of Community and Men’s Sheds around Tasmania have grown significantly.  The number of new members joining existing sheds has also increased, with 15% growth in memberships across the State in the last 20 months.

Labor understands that community and men’s sheds play a valuable role at grass roots level in our local communities, providing a safe and friendly environment to improve the well-being and health of members and a myriad of projects.

Community and Men’s Sheds continue to deliver amazing outcomes for other community groups and members of the public.

Research conducted by the Tasmanian Council of Social Service (TasCOSS) with funding support from Primary Health Tasmania (PHT) show how worthwhile and necessary it is for the State Government to continue to provide support.

Labor believes the most effective way to assist the Tasmanian Men’s Shed Association is to continue the administration of a grants program.

Labor encourages the Tasmanian Men’s Shed Association to increase its connection to young people and create initiatives for cross collaboration between sheds across the State.

Previous grants programs have allowed for the purchase of essential tools and equipment and progressed capital works to expand infrastructure required for sheds to operate.

A majority Labor Government will allocate $750,000 over three years for the continuation of the grants program administered by the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
